A celebration of womanhood in all her forms and stages of life! Through support and education a woman can realise her conception and birthing dreams. The courses allow the woman and her partner to bring the focus back to themselves; to give themselves permission to celebrate their unique relationship and birth preferences. These are special life events not just purely medical and biological happenings. We all have feelings and they affect our experiences by the choices we make. I offer parents clarity on what they feel is right for them; thus allowing them to relax and feel confident about their decisions.

About us

I was standing in my works toilet cubicle, staring at the pregnancy test strip – really? I was pregnant? I was 37 years old, had been in two long term relationships (constantly not taking contraceptives 'by accident') and given up the on idea of having children. Seemed like it was not a path I would take; until now. How could this be? I had resigned from my job and planned to go travelling! My memory was taking me back to the Crystal Healer I had seen just a few weeks before. She told me there was a little blonde girl standing by me; well, I just burst in to tears. I had connected with the fact that I had been burying my desire to have a child all these years. So was this the little blonde girl inside me now? Yes, I did have a girl and she did have fair hair.

As far as the pregnancy went, I was healthy and had very little cause for complaint. Towards the latter months I did visit a Chiropractor to alleviate my sciatica otherwise I poodled through with no problems. I spent my time renovating our newly acquired home, resting when I felt tired (oh the joy of this luxury with a first pregnancy!), looking after my diet and exercising regularly. The only areas I did not place much importance on was how I was feeling about becoming a mother or what I would like to happen when I went in to labour ie my birth preferences. I just put my head in the sand!

As it turns out, this was not a great idea. Because I had no clear vision of what my birth should look like (except for the fact that I wanted a water birth at home) I was unable to express any wishes or desires to the caregivers. So they did arrive at my home to support me, but with no clear guidance on what I wanted, they just dealt with my care in the way they wanted. Which on hind sight was not what I wanted. Needless to say, I felt extremely dissatisfied with the whole affair. If you are reading this and have never given birth I would add that when in full labour, it is very, very difficult to express yourself as you are totally immersed in what your body is doing. Hence I was not able to speak out and guide them to what I wanted.

Yes, I did have a natural labour in the end but it was under under extreme stress. Not really the way I wanted my little girl to arrive; she expressed her dissatisfaction by crying for three months. It was a poor start for her which made for a very difficult and unhappy adjustment to being a parent.

Needless to say, when I gave birth to my second daughter, I turned it around! I attended Mongan Method HypnoBirthing®, practised, practised, practised and planned exactly the birth I wanted. Which funnily enough is how it played out. Even though I constantly repeated to myself that I would accept any change to my plans; it was perfect. Admittedly I did not sail through the pregnancy as I did the first time (totally sympathising with other mothers who suffered from sickness and constant tiredness with a toddler), but I did sail through the labour beautifully with the brilliant support of my birth companion and Midwives. What did I do differently this time? HypnoBirthing® guided me to pay attention to my mind – my attitude was very positive and I felt a clarity on what I wanted to happen at my birth. Because, no matter how my birth would have turned out, I trusted those around me to honour my wishes. They knew about my breathing techniques, exactly what to do and say to calm me and they also knew that I was willing to move away from the plan if needed, but always within my preferences.

Nowadays, my girls are growing and the days of caring for babies have long gone as other challenges unfold. I love to teach HypnoBirthing® and HB Fertility as the content is of such excellent quality and really can alter the course of these life changing experiences for the better. To me, that's priceless!

HypnoBirthing®
HypnoBirthing® Mongan Method Course

What is it?
Simple, straightforward program, thoughtfully developed over the years to remind mothers of the simplicity of birth itself. Just as the majority of birthing women do not need interventions and procedures for safe and healthy birth, they do not need a complex set of exercises and scripts to prepare themselves for peaceful, calm and comfortable birthing. The birthing body and the baby know just what to do. Mongan Method HypnoBirthing® is designed to teach women to trust in Nature's way of birth and to relax and let their bodies do what is needed. By practicing a few key techniques, mothers program their minds and condition their bodies to birth easily. When it comes to programming and conditioning, variety is not necessarily a good thing. Repetition is what gets the best result. The course consists of 5 weekly classes, 2.5 – 3 hours each duration, venue for small groups is Shearsby Village Hall or at my home in Shearsby. The refresher is one session only.

HB Fertility

HynoBirthing® Fertility Support Course
Whether you are just in the planning stages of wanting to become a mother, have been trying to conceive naturally for some time or are being supported by IVF, HB Fertility Support can increase your success by 55%. As shown by a case control study of couples using hypnotherapy, In May 2006.
It is a common understanding that nature has designed woman to be fertile and:
(a) Want to become a mother and
(b) Conceive and birth babies
This is a firm belief held by many in our society. We grow up knowing that this choice may be available to us. But this decision is commonly being deferred nowadays whilst the woman grows her independence and individuality. For a lot of women, her priorities have changed from the post-war attitude of being a stay at home Mum with no career. She wants to experience fun, build relationships, establish herself in the career world before committing herself to motherhood.
As soon as the woman is in a stable relationship (man or woman), the topic of children soon arises from those around us. I have heard of couples only married for a matter of minutes before well-meaning friends and relatives are approaching them and asking when they are going to have children! And if your response is that you don't want children, then why not? The pressure is on!
The reality is that becoming pregnant and growing a healthy baby to full term is not readily available to all women. There are critical factors which can disturb the delicate balance of a woman's body such as attitude, nutrition, environment, physical wellbeing and relationships. An inbalance in any or several of these areas can disrupt the natural balance.

Mothers will feel more confident about their pregnancy and birth; knowing how to prepare their mind and body for a safe and easy birth.
Feeling confident that their choices are the right choices for them; everybody is unique and so are their choices.
Birthing Partners will be confident in knowing exactly how to support the birthing mother through pregnancy and birth.
Less likely to use interventions in labour such as induction, anaesthesia, epidural etc.
Less likely to experience a surgical birth (17% HypnoBirthing® mothers had C-section compared to 32% national average in USA 2005-2010. Note: UK have very similar numbers).
More confident in choosing the place of birth whether that be at home, birthing centre or hospital. Confident in speaking with care providers to achieve better results for both parties.
Less likely to have a low birth weight baby as HypnoBirthing® mothers are less likely to have inductions which reflects this result.
Relaxation techniques to use throughout pregnancy, birth and in to motherhood.
HypnoBirthing® babies are generally calm and sleep well after the birth, most likely due to the pregnancy bonding prior to birth and calmer birth outcomes. HypnoBirthing® families bond easily with the baby and breastfeeding is more successful as a result.

HB Testimonials

Gabriela and Michael, Wellingborough.
This is an interview shortly after the birth of their first child in Hospital, talking about how HypnoBirthing® made a difference to their experience.

"..the belief to trust that my body had all the resources it needed to bring our baby into the world

A friend of mine had given birth using HypnoBirthing® and I was inspired by her story and how easily she had given birth as a first time mother.
The journey to parenthood is amazing but sometimes daunting. I was looking for some tools and techniques to help my husband and I relax and prepare for the birth and deliver our baby in the most natural way possible.
I decided to do a series of one-to-one HypnoBirthing® sessions alongside some pregnancy yoga and as a result achieved everything I was looking for - relaxation techniques, fear release, positive affirmations and the belief to trust that my body had all the resources it needed to bring our baby into the world.

Tay & Wayne experiences on HypnoBirthing® Classes 1, 2 and 3

Class 1
The highlight for me was definitely watching the birth video and how calm and relaxed the birthing looked. It was definitely a very powerful tool as evidence to what can be achieved.
The visualisation task was also powerful in showing how strong a tool the mind can be and it demonstrated how the body can react to a simple thought.
Tay & Wayne, Leicestershire. (March 14)

Class 2
Highlights included: the birth video as always, the baby development videos and especially the poems to the baby in particular Daddy's promise. Tay & Wayne, Leicestershire. (March 14)

Class 3
As requested, our highlights of Session Three were again the birthing video which is always so beautiful and moving and also the deepening techniques in particular the anchor and the thermometer techniques which I think with practice will be massively helpful on the day. I loved the anchor because Wayne calms me on a daily basis anyway but it will be a technique so he can actively participate in my relaxation.

Tay & Wayne experiences on HypnoBirthing® Classes 4 and 5

Class 4 felt different, to me at least, as it dealt with the negative possibilities of our hospital experience such as pressure are: induction or medical intervention. This was, however, very empowering as we can be confident to control our experience and not be influenced by quick reactionary medical opinions. It was also interesting to learn about the "science" or lack of behind the due dates. The highlights for this week were the information provided to the birth partner as I was keen for Wayne to have something that was especially focused on him, these being the affirmations and the crib sheet to help him to support me on the day. I think they will be really useful.
Tay & Wayne, Leicestershire. (April 2014)

The highlight of Class 5 was definitely the breastfeeding video (for me at least), it's taken away a degree of anxiety I was suffering over the prospect of a latching on a wriggling baby in the middle of the night on my own. I now know to work with the baby’s wriggling and that I won’t need to fight against it! I feel so much more confident about the whole subject, which in turn will help my overall relaxation in birthing and breastfeeding which as we’ve learn is essential to help it go as smooth as possible. Also the letter for the care providers about forced pushing verses birth breathing is great so we don’t have to get into a potential debate over the pros and cons!
Tay & Wayne, Leicestershire. (April 2014)

Friends and family have even commented on how calm and happy I seem

Teresa has helped me to be strong and confident as I look forward to my due date in just 6 weeks... I have already experienced the direct benefits of continuing to practice the different breathing techniques, remaining calm and using the visualisations to help me relax.
The affirmations sounded a bit cheesy at first, but soon they became very reassuring and motivating at what could have been a very stressful time - I found myself listening to them at bedtime and it also helped me to sleep soundly, relaxation, breathing and visualisation exercises that both myself and my husband could do. Whilst waiting for the course to begin, I read through the HypnoBirthing® book I was given and began listening to the rainbow relaxation CD and birth affirmations. I figured the rainbow relaxation must be working, as I couldn't stay awake whilst listening to it!

Dads

FOR BIRTHING PARTNERS (DAD, RELATIVE, PARTNER)
Most birthing companions (whether that be the dad, same sex partner, relative, friend) who attend my classes generally speaking, fall in to two categories:
• I am not worried about her birth, want to support her but have no idea what to do
Or
• Aaargh! She's pregnant and I have no idea what to expect or do on the day!
The general theme here is that the birth companions do not know what a good birth looks like, how their partner will most likely react to the different stages of labour and what on earth should they be doing whilst all of this is going on?! Hold her hand? Fill the birth pool? Get the hospital bag? Does this sound like you? Not to worry, this is very common as most people have not been exposed to good birth experiences ….unless you know of someone who has used the HypnoBirthing® Mongan Method and they are recommending the course to you!

Firstly, by making the decision to come along to the course this will massively demonstrate to your partner that you are there for her. Sound good?
Secondly, when you come along to the course you can either fully participate or just soak up the calm atmosphere.
Either way, there are many advantages to coming along:
• It will enhance your relationship as you demonstrate your support during this life changing experience.
• The relaxation and breathing exercises will bring a calm space to your relationship allowing you to plan and prepare for the birth with more ease. No second guessing on the day – both knowing what your preferences are.
• If you choose to practice the techniques with the mother you will feel the benefits through all aspects of your life.
• You will be given a prompt sheet which will help to remind you about the different stages of labour and what you can be doing every step of the way.
• You will notice the mother relaxing in to pregnancy as she practices the simple techniques. One Dad commented during a class that his wife was a changed person for taking the classes (for the better!). He was a happy man.
• You will see that birth can be positive and beautiful. A truly special and unique experience for you, the mother and baby.
• You will learn how to bond with the baby whilst in the womb. You can start your relationship now with the little one. This information is truly incredible as you see the recognition in the baby's eyes when they are in your arms. Prepare to be blown away!
